Barbara DeLeo
After a decade going down the traditional authors’ route, with a New York agent and US publishing house, Marlborough romance writer Barbara DeLeo now publishes her own digital and print books.
Degrees in English and psychology, and a career as an English teacher, fuelled Barbara’s passion for people and stories, and time living in Europe gave her a love for romantic settings.
Barbara lives in Blenheim, is married to her winemaker hero and is the mother of two sets of twins.

Sidestepping the Gatekeepers
Powerpoint: www.barbaradeleo.com/marlboroughbookfestival
There’s never been a better time to self-publish, says Barbara DeLeo. Her workshop will canvass every step of the process, from writing and editing, formatting and publishing, to getting your book into e-readers, audio and libraries, and perhaps on the shelves of little bookshops on the opposite side of the world. She’ll also talk about marketing and getting paid royalties for your work. “Anything is possible. It’s just you and your creative mind and your computer. That’s all you need to do it”. Barbara’s workshop will also look at potential pitfalls of being your own gatekeeper.
